Miss Lilly

Hello, pug people!

My name is Lisa and I have a fawn pug named Charlie Angel, the princess puglet! She is 8 years old. We (my boyfriend and I - his name is "Quick!") have had er since she was 6 weeks old. We decided to look for a rescue pug so Charlie could have a companion. We found Miss Connie of Santa Barbara Pug Rescue and knocked on her door one day unannounced! She invited us in and we became instant friends! She did not have any rescues that day so we went home.

Two days later San Diego Pug Rescue called Connie informing her of some rescues. Connie called me and said to go on their website to check out the rescues. Wow, this was happening fast! I knew that I did not want a male and not an old pug, also. Then Miss Lilly came into our lives! She has one eye and no one wanted to adopt her because of the missing eye! I knew immediately that we had to have her! We drove back to Santa Barbara and Miss Lilly came from San Diego. The instant I saw her I cried! She is jet black and beautiful and is always winking at us! She is very healthy and her coat is shiny and silky. Charlie and Lilly get along so well, like 2 pugs on a rug! Of course they sleep with us, Charlie under the covers and Lilly on top! We are very lucky to have Lilly in our lives. We thank our lucky pug stars every day!

Humphrey

Poor "Humphrey" was found wandering on the streets of Lancaster when found by a young couple who discovered him searching for scraps. Needless to say, he was terribly skinny, and after asking around for days and posting flyers everywhere, sadly there was no response. The couple brought him directly to my house with no warning, and couldn't foster him then, so our hero Don came over and saved the day by fostering him for a few weeks. Luckily, a wonderful couple, Tom and Eileen and their two boys fell in love with him and visa versa!

This is a picture of the happy family.

"Providing for Pugs"

William McIntyre, Jr. raised $511.00 for Pug Rescue of Santa Barbara during a two day fundraiser, selling coffee and donuts at the local pre-school near his home in Malibu. William is the proud owner of a pug named Peach, who recently had an expensive surgery on a broken leg. William felt lucky Peach had insurance and his family was able to pay for the surgery so he and his dog can run around the yard and play together again.

William decided he wanted to help out other pugs who needed money for surgeries and other medical care and who were not as fortunate as Peach to have the resources. When the McIntyre's were researching places to buy and adopt pugs, they came across "Pug Rescue of Santa Barbara." William researched the website and saw there were a lot of pugs in need of his help and knew his donation would be going to a great cause. With the help of his three older brothers - Morgan, Macon (who owns a pug named Rosey), and Madison, they set up a coffee and donut stand, complete with sugar, cream, and signs to inform customers of prices and where proceeds would go. William gave free donuts and juice to the children and sold coffee and donuts to the parents of children during morning drop-off. Many parents knew of someone with a pug, so the donations and generosity were given out of love and appreciation to William's cause.

William was in Santa Barbara in August finishing up a "California Missions" trip and also visited relatives then. While in Santa Barbara he dropped his donation off directly to the Pug Rescue of Santa Barbara and got to see firsthand who his hard earned money will help - pugs!

"Gizmo’s" story

A lovely 3 year old Pug came to us last Fall, seemingly in good health. Several months after adopting her to Clyde and Yvonne in San Luis Obispo, she became quite ill. It appeared the she had to have a liver shunt for her to survive, a condition we were unaware of when we received her. Pug Rescue felt we should make this Pug "whole" for the adoring couple and the best solution was to get her to UC Davis which specializes in this type of surgery. Needless to say, this was a complicated and expensive surgery, but was absolutely vital. The adopters drove her to Davis and stayed with her throughout the entire ordeal. The Pug is now happy and healthy with a long life ahead of her! A true "rescue!!

"Lily’s" story

We were contacted this year by a woman who discovered she needed hip surgery and would not be able to take care of her 9 month old rambunctious black female Lily, so she contacted us for help. My daughter and son-in-law, who have two daughters, ages 11 and 13, had two fawn Pugs, but decided they wanted to keep her even though they already have Chinchillas, rats, guinea pigs and rabbits!! It was quite a madhouse because Lily had been kept pretty much in her crate, wasn’t housebroken because her owner couldn’t walk her often. She tore through the house with the other Pugs and chewed shoes and any other objects within reach. An urgent call was made to Wency Lopez, animal trainer, who straightened her out very quickly and gave many helpful tips to the family. Lily is truly "home at last"!

"Pugsley’s" story

We had an application from a wonderful applicant who could not take a rescue right away as she was moving to a local retirement home. Well, Pugsley showed up at the right time as the woman was now all moved in and really wanting a companion. Pugsley’s original owner was just beginning a business career which quickly took off and he discovered he did not the enough time to care for the Pug so his mom took him. It turns out Mom was extra busy herself and this young dog was just too much for her to care for. We were delighted to try her out with June, our retiree, but were worried about whether she could take care of Pugsley at her age (88!). We didn’t need to worry as she walks him five times a day and both have companionship 24/7!! It was definitely "Karma"!
